Milk Fortification

Vitamin A and D deficiency is a serious health problem in India. An estimated 25,000 to 50,000 children become blind every year whereas 3,33,000 children die due to vitamin A deficiency. It’s a similar situation when it comes to Vitamin D. A study in 2010 suggested that nearly 32% of Indians suffer from Vitamin D deficiency.

Although, milk is a rich source of vitamins, most of them are lost during pasteurization, UHT and sterilization. Thankfully, these vitamins can be added again by fortification of milk.
